Photo of the Day......1953 Chevy Suburban

I am finally returning to the Great Prairies of North America.  Back to the Cimarron of the Oklahoma panhandle.   This is a 1953 Chevrolet 3100 Suburban left to sit in the open prairie.  To the car's and probably the owner's good fortune the drought has left the prairie so dry who knows how long it will last in the dry air.

Photo of the Day....Very Beautiful Girl

I noticed this White Morph female Red Tailed Hawk sitting high in the trees in the back yard.  She caught my attention because she was such a big girl.  I was certain she would be gone by the time I grabbed my camera but she sat in the tree tops for a long time not at all concerned about me.  I believe, looking at the bulge in her throat she was very busy digesting her afternoon snack.  It appears her crop is full.

Later she returned and I spotted her in an old squirrel's nest finishing her kill but, this time, being true to form, she was gone by the time I got my camera.  What I noticed, that I had never seen before, were Cardinals and House Finches sitting in the branches around her as she ate.  I assume they were waiting to grab a meat snack or two when she was done.  She was completely oblivious to their presence.

Photographing birds in the backyard, even in the winter, can be a challenge because the tree stand density is enough to make it difficult to find a clear view of the bird without interfering small branches between you and the subject.  Usually in the summer the leaf canopy is too thick to see even a fraction of the birds hanging about in the trees.

Final Post.....On Final and Home before the Storm

On final approach to runway 20 SGF with two white and two red.  Right on the numbers.  Glad we fly through the sky faster than thunderstorms.

Bonus Photo of the Day......Arriving home just before the storm front

Arriving home around at 5:11 PM just in front of the storm front.  Taking photos out of aircraft windows in low light is not an easy job.  The cockpit windows can be thick and the curvature creates lots of refraction, reflection and clarity loss.

Photo of the Day.....First Landing of the Day

This is an old photo I took while turning final for the first landing of the day.  It was taken on October 10th 2007 at 7:35AM Central time.  It was a  mostly cloudy warm October morning and we spent the afternoon dodging thunderstorms.  In fact while driving home from the airport after securing the aircraft I spotted a tornado.  We got home just before the nasty WX parts arrived.  As the old saw says: "Red sky in the morning sailor take warning."

Photo of the Day......Peanut Pads

Old Peanut decided to park is weary bones on the scanner and he got scanned.  Peanut was not only an awesome Yellow Tabby.  He was the greatest cat that ever lived.  Peanut the Great. The Peanut Butter.  I've forgotten when he died and when this scan was done.  My records say this photograph was created February 10 2007, but I can't be sure that is right.  I may not remember when he came to live with us or what day it was when wandered out the backyard to never come home again, but I still miss him.  We were buddies.

This photo blog has been in operation for a year and a half now and I think is is due for another round of "spiffing up".
